I’ve just looked at this again and am using it with iCloud calendars - but what would be good would be if you could extract data from the calendar event and use them in the automation. For example, include the entity name of a radiator and include the temperature in the body or subject of the calendar event, and then run the automation with those data 🙂
Thanks!
can i use both frigate and blue iris at the same time ?
I'm stuck at Device Access console "The project could not be created." I've had Welcome to the Google Developer Program email and confirmation the money has been paid. Even when skipping the OAuth client ID. Any ideas?
I've just done this Portainer process on my Synology NAS. For the MQTT settings in HA do I use my NAS' IP as the broker hostname/IP address ? Thanks
I am running home assistant on yellow. I want to install grafana but I don't have supervisor tab to go to. Do I have any option to add it to my system. I assume that InfluxDB and grafana ha to be installed on the pi that home assistant is on. Ray Knapp Thank you for your time.
I have one big question. When should one use 'NGINX Home Assistant SSL proxy' and when 'Nginx proxy manager'? Does the first one only allow one domain and the second one several different domains? What's the difference between those two addons?
Chris. I saw you use Grafana for graphing data and it looked like is was installed in home assistant. Can you recommend a good video that will teach me how to install it in my home assistant. Thank you for all your work and help. Ray Knapp
I am slowly getting ready to install the database software and Grafana on my system. I wanting to make sure that I am correct on an assumption. I have a home assistant yellow, and it is running with an SSD drive in it. I am assuming that that should have enough power to do all of the processing I need. I am looking forward to getting the data base installed and then the Grafana. I did figure out that since your videos are so old that the way to get to the store is different now, but I have that out now. When I have some free time, I will start the process. I am looking forward to pulling sensors together over time to monitor things. Ray
Very good job Chris. Thank you. One question: what if i am connected on LTE and have enabled the hotspot future in my phone... What about other systems connected on hotspot. Do they connected via wireguard? so all are using vpn tunnel? Thank you
Hi, I have tried to get my nest thermostat integrated into my home assistant. I have tried working thought your information and over the past year or so I have paid $15 trying to connect using different emails and nothing seams to work. Do you have a simple way now to do the integration or is it still over kill just to get the data from the thermostat into home assistant. Help I would really like to get it working.
I appreciate your videos very much. Great work, so well done. I have Kidde models, all interconnected. How can I find the last one on the daisy chain is my biggest challenge. One is like 10ft high on a sloped ceiling....
Five (5) years is a ridiculously short period of time for an infrastructure product in a house. Kidde creates their smoke detectors with "10 year" batteries that fail after 4 years (as I found in a new construction home I built.
Thanks, Chris. I just built a new home, and requested that Nest Protect sensors be used, in part for their built-in notification capabilities. I live, however, in Ontario, which seems to have the strictest building code for fire safety. It is mandatory to have a strobe light on all new builds since 2014. And yet none of the big box stores, (you know who you are), sells a single strobe-equipped model, which drastically reduces the choices of vendors. The builder ended up putting in BRK, though, so the ZEN55 should work. My question is about where to install it. I would prefer to install it near the panel, assuming the DC signal wire is brought there, but your comments about installing at the last unit has me worried that this would work even if it is. So, how can you install it near the detector without it looking ugly? Do you have to go up into the attic? Or is there some better way to hide it? Otherwise, it will never pass muster with my wife!
I found a couple comments around the internet and an HA discussion thread that suggested it will work anywhere in the series. The main reason for installation in the last box is for simplicity of wiring and space. Each hard wired smoke detector should have an electrical box behind it just like any other mains electrical device, which would keep the device hidden from the house manager.
no update? wondering about this vs ESPresense for car arriving home detection
Hey Chris, I believe the issue with your X-Sense smoke/CO detector is that they communicate with one another wirelessly, instead of using the interconnected physical wiring.
Sounds like a software defined radio video might be coming our way.
For another 10 bucks you could also get the First Alert Zwave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. It's not 800LR but another option.
That's what I have, but since I recently purchased a home with hard wired detectors, I would be interested in checking this out.
That extra $10 cost for each detector with Z-Wave built in can add up quickly and exceed the cost of the Zooz. I only paid $28 for the ZEN55. Alternately, you can add the ZEN55 to existing smoke detectors without having to replace them all, thus saving $$$ as well.
@@wscottfunk Also that would be an extra $10/per detector every 10 years
I never realized that smoke detectors have a lifespan of 10 years. Mine were 14 years old, so I just replaced all of them a couple of weeks ago and added the ZEN55, since they are all mains powered and interconnected. The ZEN55 was a much more cost effective solution than buying individual smoke detectors that had Z-Wave built in. It works great in Home Assistant. I set up an automation to send a TTS alert through all of the speakers throughout the house, turn on all the interior and exterior lights, turn off the HVAC system, unlock the exterior doors and open the garage door as well as send an alert to our phones. This was money well spent!
Wow!!!... Kinda disappointing that you don't have a video up about your system. If that changes, please let us know
This is exactly what I did!
I have Verizon, S23 ultra. Im receiving the "No internet " msg like you did. I configured the DNS the exact same way but no luck. Do you know of a extra step thats needed?
Home Assistant OS actually has a built-in system for mounting samba shares now, and I created an automation to initiate a backup at regular intervals to my Ceph cluster
Hey Chris, thanks for giving us a walk-through of your dashboard. As others have said here I really like your existing dashboard. I want a dashboard that delivers all pertinent information at a single view and don’t want to have to scroll around or navigate to different pages to get a status update for the home. This is my top most viewed and I want deeper information, such as history graphs or finer controls then I’m willing to dig into sub pages. The hardest part for me is finding creative ways to display everything at a top level glance since I have a home set up with close to 150 smart home devices (lights, ceiling, fans, sensors, locks, cameras, etc.). That’s why it’s great to turn to videos like yours to get inspiration for new ways to think about laying out my main home screen. Thanks to another comment on this video I was able to find the Bignumber-card that you use for your room temperature sensors which I love. I’m going to be installing those on my board this weekend.
I was lost but now i'm found...Thank you!
Hey Chris, curious what card you use for the Temperature readouts? The ones that look like filled bar charts. Is that Custom Button Card, or maybe the custom 'bar-card'? Can you share the YAML for them?
Hi Chris, Great video. I set this up a year ago and it's fantastic. I've just added a new camera to my Google account. How do I get it to show up in the HA integration. Any guidance very welcome.
I prefer your original dashboard. Thanks for the video!
Would you recommend some precise temperature sensors for ESPhome, like ready made product ? Maybe there are some sensors which are well made, precise and ready to go with ESPhome solution? This one has temperature sensor, but like you mentioned - it is not the main task for it. Thank you!
Is there a way to get embed code from ip cams?
thanks for this LINK BROKEN as they have moved to MSR-2 .. may want to redo your affiliate link. Cheers.
Really cool. Using the Slate AX.
+9000 to previous comments about clarity. Subscribed as well :) are there any special considerations for setting up the broker with only SSL? I used the openssl tag for the image, and am able to connect to the broker using MQTT explorer as well as things like frigate. For some reason though HA doesn't like it and I think I tried every combo of the advanced setting. Thoughts?
Great video. Very well explained. Thank you for your work.
I use this card on tablet wich is at tv room, I set a google photos album as default camera so it is always showing family photos so it will show cameras based son ocupancy detection
Matter is still very BETA, so it doesn't Matter right now :D
Maybe decrease font size and space between sections to make it all fit
For my multi time tariff power (Peak, Shoulder and Offpeak M-F, and Shoulder and Offpeak on weekends) I was able to create a Helper Template that sets an entity to the current tariff. A change in this entity is then used as a trigger in a single automation that sets ALL of my power meters into the correct tariff.
Use conditional cards in views that only show when something is out of range and requires attention. If you do not need to act on it until something isn't right, ie. temperature too high, make it conditional.
What is the card you are using that's basically a button shape that shows the bar indicator, temps, icons, etc?
PLEASE YES ANSWER!
I found it in another video. Search HACS for bignumber-card and button-card
@@JeppedyThank you! I was looking for this as well.
Thanks for the demo Chris. It gave me some ideas for my own dashboard. What is the browser plugin you are using to emulate different mobile devices?
Thanks Chris. Nicely explained as usual. I have a daily driver tablet which I simplify by using room cards that only shows room temp. Touching the room card opens a new view for everything related to that room. Everything else on the home page is non room specific such as weather, calendar events etc. Nothing wrong with your approach if it suits your needs.
Just a tip, if you are short on space you can ommit the section names and it'll close up the space so you can fit more in!
UX is so subjective. Now you have to move the mouse etc. Better to not use titles like this but to group them using color schemes or adjust to title header text and adjust the margins / spacing.
Let me try something from a designers perspective: for example your Door/Window contact sensors don’t have to be visible all the time. You could use a conditional card to only show you the open doors and hide all closed. The best thing is, the cards expand to fill the free space. So you can make a vertical stack, in that some horizontal stacks and if you have 4 cards in a horizontal stack, but only 2 doors are open, the cards fill the space. I also use bubble cards to make pop ups for lights, climate, security and all the stuff I don’t need to have at a glance. You just have to figure out, what things you use the most. On my tablet however, I used Project Grace and there I have a „sidebar“ section on the left, which tells me how many lights at on, how often I fed the cats, what shift my wife is working today/tomorrow and and 2/3rds on the right are my lights and and outlets for quick access. Just a few things I have and maybe fit your needs too or inspire you ;)
Just curious why you would be monitoring CO2 levels? Isn't that carbon dioxide?
Yes CO2 is carbon dioxide. I can't speak for Chris. However, usually indoor CO2 is usually measured for knowing wether there is sufficient ventilation. People breath out CO2 as they are burning carbohydrates. Relatively high CO2 concentrations can cause headaches, lower concentration, or less good sleep.
Thanks Chris...I am so lost when it comes to dashboards...sorry... I have watched you for several years...thank you for your insight...I have run HA on a VM (ProxMox) for several years...I would love to have a dashboard for my wife (so nothing gets screwed up)...and one for me (the Admin)...I have recently come across Dwains dashboards...still trying to understand...anyways, much thanks for all your efforts...JG
I went through this guide and added my first nest doorbell. Worked like a charm! I then added another nest doorbell to my home and thought through reloading the integration on home assistant it might just pull the next device through. Didn't. Question is therefore, what do I need to do once I have this setup and I add a second nest doorbell device? TIA.
I think you're too harsh on the less UX-pro dashboards. It's hard to get started and many beginners spend too much time on making a perfect dashboard on their first attempt and fail as a result. Prototyping a minimal viable product is a highly undervalued trend die home assistant. One will learn a lot by having an over or under populated dashboard. By reflecting on what one has, the next step can be taken. The old dashboard was not pretty but it worked.
Personally, I prefer the original colorful view, easier on my eyes and brain for locating things. GREAT Video!
What card are you using for the alarm?
